BODY CONTOURING
+ FAT REDUCTION

Sometimes, no matter how much exercise we do, there's that little bulge that sticks around. It can be these stubborn areas that affect us most.

Cutera TruSculpt fat reduction is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure for body contouring, body sculpting, fat reduction & cellulite removal. Designed to address problem areas like the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, and flanks.

This treatment works for all types of skin & has been likened to a hot stone massage.

The multidimensional approach uses therapeutic heat to decrease circumference & diminish fat by up to 24%. Delivering results in the shortest possible treatment time.

Radio frequency energy passes through the skin to target the underlying fat tissue. As the fat is heated, the cells are destroyed & pass through the body naturally. You can expect to decrease circumference & diminish fat in areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise. Results can be seen 8-12 weeks post-treatment. We recommend 3 treatments for maximum results.

What’s not to like about that?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is truSculpt?

TruSculpt is a non-invasive Radio Frequency technology that delivers deep heating to adipose tissue for body sculpting, fat reduction and skin tightening.

Am I the right candidate for truSculpt?

At your complimentary consultation we will determine whether truSculpt is the best treatment for you. Typically appropriate patients have a BMI less than 30 and despite exercise and diet have unwanted fat in different areas of the body. Check your BMI at; http://www.ntlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm

Who cannot be treated with truSculpt?

Your suitability for truSculpt will be determined during your consultation. Clients who cannot be treated with truSculpt include:

  • Those who are pregnant

  • Those will cardiac pacemakers

  • Those with malignant or benign tumours in the target area

  • Those with metallic implants in the target area of any kind including joint replacements.

Can truSculpt be used on all skin types?

Yes, in general truSculpt can be used on all skin types.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the area(s) treated, but typically a treatment takes between 15 minutes and an hour per area treated.

How many treatments will be needed?

At your consultation, we will discuss with you the likely number of treatments that will be needed based upon the area(s) you wish to have treated and your desired results. Typically 1-3 treatments are needed for each area, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

When will I start seeing visible results?

The energy delivered by truSculpt triggers the body’s immune system to break down fat cells in treated areas. This process takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months. You may begin to see results anytime during that period, or even later.

What do I need to do before the treatment?

Drink plenty of water prior to (preferably 1 litre) to hydrate cells and continue drinking plenty of water in the days following your treatment. Please have the area clean and free of deodorants, topical creams and lotions. Also, brisk exercise after your procedure can be helpful in achieving better results. Shape wear can be worn to promote skin retention. Jewellery and body piercings near the treatment site must be removed.

What happens during the treatment?

After a brief pre-treatment preparation, your provider will apply the truSculpt handpiece to your skin and deliver targeted pulses of appropriately calibrated radio frequency energy. Each pulse will last on average 4 minutes; upon completion, the handpiece will typically last between 15 minutes and an hour, depending on the number of pulses applied.

What does it feel like?

The radio frequency energy will heat the deep layers of the skin, but most patients find the resulting discomfort easily tolerable. Your provider can adjust the temperature depending upon your comfort level. No pain medication, topical anaesthetics, gels, or active cooling will be needed.

Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

Yes. The procedure is non-invasive, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Patients frequently return to work right after the session.

Is truSculpt safe? Is it painful? Are there side effects?

The Trusculpt system is designed to provide a safe and comfortable procedure. Typically, there is no downtime after the treatment though patients may experience mild discomfort. Side effects can include redness, sweating, and mild tenderness in the treated areas. Usually, these side effects resolve within a few hours.

How does RF compare to other modalities like laser, cryolipolisis, and ultrasound?

For the purpose of non-invasive body contouring, each technology approaches the disruption of fat differently. These processes can be divided into 3 categories:

1. Bulk Hypothermia (Coolsculpting) This modality uses slow cooling to extract more than 10°C of temperature from the fat cells, initiating an irreversible damage to the fat cells and leading to apoptosis. This is achieved by vacuuming the skin away from the body, which reduces the blood flow to the fat pocket and pulls the tissue into contact with a contouring cooling plate, which has a surface temperature of -11°C. Over the next 15 to 20 minutes, the fat temperature between 5 – 25 mm is reduced to -15°C and is held at this temperature for another 15 minutes. Once this is completed, the area is strongly massaged to reperfuse the treated area with blood and try to amplify the trauma to the already sensitive fat cells. The treatment time at therapeutic temperature efficiency of this method is approximately 40 – 50% (15 min @ temp of, 35 min treatment time) for a 144-cm2 area.

2. Laser-assisted (SculpSure) Under intense contact skin cooling, a 1060 nm laser is heat cycled, while monitoring skin surface temperature, to increase in the fat cell temperature to between 42°C and 47°C. Laser effectively destroys 1 cm3 of fat and this only occurs under the perfect conditions. Efficacy can be greatly reduced in people with brown and more fibrous fat/subcutaneous tissue. It is estimated that approximately 30 – 40% of pulses performed actually disrupt the cell membrane of fat cells at a depth of 15 mm. The treatment time at therapeutic temperature efficiency of this method is considerable lower than other methods. Assuming 20% fat clearance after 3 sessions the approximate time to effect is around 6 – 10% every 45 minutes.

Is RF selective in the destruction of tissue?

RF is simple. It will flow along the path of least resistance or the fastest distance between two points. However, if this path is “impeded,” heat is generated. Although this is a natural effect of conducted electrical current, its effect on human tissue cannot be taken for granted. To create consistency of these heat effects and to ensure that the right layers are heated regardless of the thickness of the tissue, it is imperative that sophisticated electronics monitor and correct the amount of RF current delivered. TruSculpt takes this a step further by incorporating a closed temperature feedback loop, which is also tied to the RF generator to optimize energy delivery through the tissue regardless of fat thickness and skin conductivity.

Where does the extra RF energy go if not absorbed by tissue?

Unlike laser photons, RF current is made up of positive and negative charged ions that flow through the tissue. Heat is generated by this flow and not by the “absorption” of this energy. This effect relies on the control of the flow rate by the systems RF generator and the electrode geometry of the “treatment” electrode and its “return” path. In TruSculpt, these are both designed to optimise the current flow through the fat, then into the muscle, where it disperses into very low density back to the return electrode.

How does truSculpt affect skin?

It is well known that bulk heating the skin to temperatures over 42°C causes a strong inflammatory response in the skin and connective tissue. This inflammatory response, although dependent on the patients wound healing response, can be made more significant based on heating time at temperature. Since TruSculpt heats the fat layer while sustaining a temperature of more than 42°C within all tissue layers in excess of 10 minutes, the added bonus is strong connective tissue remodelling, which can lead to significant improvements in appearance.
